Tell Your Story- Laura

Welcome to the “Tell Your Story” highlight reel.

If you haven’t guessed it, everyone has a story. Within each, is identifiable life experiences, anyone can glean from if open to receive.

This is a brief Highlight Reel of anothers’ life journey designed to inspire. Have a coffee/tea and read on as Laura shares her story.

I love to write, read, travel, eat out, and go for long car rides with my honey – we have the best conversations in that setting.

What did you do before blogging

I had many jobs before starting my blog and freelance writing.  Most recently, I spent about a decade as a human resources professional, holding various positions across several different industries.

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because it looked like the gateway to having an online business.  While my blog is not really monetized in the traditional sense (ads, affiliate links, etc.) right now, that may change in the future.  I found rather quickly, though, that my blog was an excellent initial portfolio for my growing freelance writing business.

What hurdles (mental or physical) did you have to overcome to get your blog started and continue on today?

I found that starting the blog was pretty easy.  However, maintaining the blog is a challenge.  Writing for others is my job now so when it comes time to writing for me, it’s not my first choice in leisure activities.  Life gets in the way (to be cliché!) and my blog has taken a backseat.  I have not officially abandoned it or anything – it just doesn’t get updated as often as it should.

What advice would you share with someone who want to start blogging?

Although you can’t really predict what will unfold until it happens, try to have a strategic plan for your blog in advance.  Having a goal and clear point of view will keep you focused on an endeavor where it’s very easy to get distracted or frustrated.

Thanks so much Laura for sharing a bit of your world and the blogging challenges you face. Someone is sure to be encouraged.
